Located on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico's easternmost state Quintana Roo, Cancun is a coastal city and home to approximately 705,000 residents. Traveling around the city is made easy by cheap and frequent access to a wide spread bus service. Buses from the Airport to the downtown operate on an hourly basis and from the downtown bus terminal one can find regular services to all parts of Mexico. Taxis are a popular alternative to the former option of public transportation, although tourists are advised to check fares prior to their journey which can often be done through the hotel reception or via a list of regular fares in the anteroom of luxury Cancun hotels.
